will there be a newly redesigned LC in the near future? #406691 02/25/04 09:03 AM

Hi all, this is my first time to this site. I recently became interested in purchasing a new car. That LC has always been one of my favorites, but I like the style of the mid-late LCs with the fender flares rather than the current ones that look more like luxury vehicles. I don't know hardly anything at all about LCs though. But I was curious, does anyone know if they are going to come out with a new design for it soon? It seems they have been using the same design for quite some time now. Also, if they do come out with a new design, do you see them increasing the horse power? To me, it seems to pale in comparison to other vehicles in terms of horse power. The BMW X5 4.4 puts out like 315 and the 4.6 puts out like 340. They are also planning on introducing a 4.8. Who knows what that will put out. I also know trucks like the Avalanche put out something like 280. The thing is, the LC only puts out like 240. If anyone has any ideas on this and can enlighten me, I would surely appreciate it. Thanks for entertaining my questions.

Yes they are going to release a new model.
Yes it probably will have more power (I don't know how much more).
Why I'm so sure of all of the above?
Because it's a common trend and that's what most (not all) buyers want, so it's just a question of time.
I'm also sure they won't realease a real 4x4 with a solid front axle and diff lockers.

Go to the Toyota website. Next year a new Cruiser called the "FJ Cruiser" is coming out. It is supposed to have a TRD supercharged 3.4L motor and a Tacoma frame. I would much rather have the sc loaded 3.4L than a big, cumbersome V8. Truck motors are getting big beyond practicality. Just my 2 cents.

The FJ Cruiser is supposed to be a "retro" FJ-40. I think it will be toned down a lot from what the concept vehicle was - and hopefully they will add at least a removable top.

This isn't a replacement for the Cruiser though - as far as I know.

I am sure that Toyota will keep the Land Cruiser around. They make it to sell all over the world, and it had quite a reputation. If they made it just for sale in the US, I fear that it would have been gone long ago.

Need a Spot
Toyota has always marketed 2 LC models, a "small" and a "big" one, not here in the US, but worldwide. They had the FJ40 and the FJ55, then the FJ60 and the FJ70, etc. Right now they have the LC and it's upscale version, the Lexus LX, for the "big" LC and for the "small" LC they have the "Prado", which is the newest LC, sold here in the US on it"s upscale version, the Lexus GX. The FJ Cruiser is just a concept car, and as usual, if it ever comes to production it will be a complete different car that the concept.

Fortunately, In Latin America and other third world countries they still sell the FJ70. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

I agree! I sent Toyota an email stating that there is still a market for a true, modern version of the FJ40. They emailed me back with the usual "thank you for the input" response. I guess an SAS 4Runner is in my future.
