Need a Spot
I have a 86 Raider wthi the 2.6 4 cyl. The poor little engine is about done. I really like this truck, even if it has become a money pit. Does anyone have any ideas on what engine to use to replace this one? Are there any inexpensive swaps? By inexpensive, I mean between 500 and 750. The wife has been pretty understanding, but I may be close to her limit. Thanks. http://www.4x4wire.com/forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Swaps? No. You might pick up a used 2.6 for that, but as far as swapping in something else, I can't see it for that kind of money.

Last time I called M&S recycling they had a stareion(sp?) motor with harness and turbo for $700. That is a good start.

Damn, you just missed this one on ebay...

How much work do you want to do? I'm going to be pulling the 86's very, very soon. It has around 120k on it and at least has a bad head gasket, if not the head. It did run when I bought it. We had no trouble starting it do drive it off the trailer. And that was after it had sat for a year. The compression is down as well so it's pretty much due for a rebuild.

Anyway, if you're interested, I wouldn't be looking for that much for it. If you're really interested and willing to pop the couple of bucks for testing the head, I can see about getting off and taking it to the local shop...

I am ready to do lots of work. I have been out of commission since Aug 15 of 2002. I was hit by a car while directing traffic at a construction site. MAJOR boken leg, and I couldn't do much. It is about 75% good and as good as it is going to get, so I might as well get busy.

I have a new head, my problem is with the rest of the engine. It sat for a long time before I bought it. I was told by the seller it 'only needs a new head'. Umm, yeah, right. I have spent over 1000.00 and it still barely ran.

Let me know on the price. I have a trailer and a couple of trucks I could use to pick it up. Let me know.

$700 for a complete 4G54BT? Not too shabby at all! Find yourself a computer to go with it and you can make some decent power.

That blows about the leg...

What are you thinking, block with no head, valve cover, carb, or air cleaner? Or the whole shebang?

Which Harrisburg are you in? Mr. Murphy picks Gallia as the other two are relatively close. Stark county would be sweet...

I've got a friend with an 89 conquest turbo that he's looking to get rid of. Should be around that price range. It runs great, but it was used as a "hornet class" race car, so it's pretty well gutted except for the important stuff. You'd obviously have a few bucks in misc. "stuff" to complete the swap but you could sure keep it low$.

Where's the friend located? I am going turbo with mine. If Nibbletoid isn't interested, and if I can get it to Cleveland cost effectively...
