Need a Spot
I got a little red postcard last week stating my need to call my dealer re: a recall on my 2001 Trooper. So I call and they tell me it's the Nov 2000 recall on the fuel line that needs to be replaced. So, I bring it in, leave it all day and pick it up that afternoon, sign the invoice which contains no cost to me.
Here's my question: on the invoice there is a note stating that I will be sent a survey by Isuzu regarding my satisfaction with my dealer. rating them from 1-5 and if I can't rate them 100% (5) please call their service rep.
So here's my beef:
1) I bought the 2001 trooper in May 2001. (6 months after the original recall) shouldn't the upgraded fuel line have been installed or refitted by the time I took delevery? Or, a statement provided at the time that a recall was in progress and I would be called in at some future date when the dealer could install the upgrade.
2) I had the Trooper in for 30K maintenance +tranny flush and front bearing re-pack just last Jan 20th. Might they have run the VIN and replaced the line then? (I know: "Crazy talk")
Dealer service was pleasant enough; they "fixed" a accelerator position sensor (?) and noted that my ABS fuse was missing (due to my having removed it)
How would you folks rate this dealer?

Just finding out about the fuse was enough for me. Thats telling me that they really took care of your Trooper instead of just doing what you asked them to do. They took the time to point that out too. I would rate them a 5. Some service stations or dealers wouldnt take the time depending on the technician working on your truck. Also I think you found a good thing with your dealer, I would stick with them for future repairs.

A reputable dealer will give you a multipoint inspection for free, it just makes sense.They figure sooner or later you will have the work done by them. Also any Isuzu that rolls in our dealership has the VIN run for recalls and campaigns.

Devil;
OK, it's true they haven't tried to screw me or anything. They did a good job of replacing one of my hubs a few years ago on my '86 Trooper. But all they had to do was look at the dash to see the ABS alarm. Doesn't three and a half years seem excessively long to notify me of a safety recall?
The 30k maintenance was the first time they've seen me since I bought the Trooper 3 yrs ago, so maybe I just now got on their service customer list. I just wish they might have caught it 6 weeks ago when I had it in.
Anyway, thanks for your opinion. I wonder if everyone else thinks I'm being too hard on them.

Do you have the info on the recall? IE recall # or description? I have a 98 trooper and am interested to see if my troop falls under this recall.

Yeah, I do. I don't expect much from dealers.

Dr:
Just do a search on "Isuzu trooper recalls" and it will come up. From what I see, it's 2000 and 2001 Troopers only that were tested and came up short on the frontal impact fuel leakage test.

Cruiserman;
You and Jdevil don't seem to expect too much from your dealers (I guess I don't go to them very often either, for the same reason). I think I'll note that in my response to their survey.
So...you guys give them 100%? This may be as good as it gets around here. I've been to worse, for sure. I just want to get a vote.
Thanks,
MutinousDoug
