replacing the rear hatch mechanism in a 96 #414855 03/09/04 09:01 PM

Hi all,

My rear hatch locking mechanism has slowly become more and more difficult to use. I can open the rear hatch but the inner handle won't release so it stays locked open. I have to manually force the inner handle open. I have tried to spray all sort of wd40 in there to try to loosen whatever is either rusted or corroded but it hasn't helped. Has anyone replaced this part before or will this be a stealer type of job?

Getting the Wheeling Fever
3-12-04 I have had what sounds like a similar problem on my 98. I opened the inside of the hatch(remove pullhandle and the cover) and sprayed everything I could see that was related to the handle/release and it helps for awhile. Good luck. Ed
