I have a 98 2.7 4x4 standard cab. I have noticed the noise for a while now and can't get rid of it. It only does it everyonce in a while and usually when i am not giving it gas. I have lifted my truck since the problem started. I have put diff tires and wheels, new shocks, and add-a-leafs under it and still sounds the same. Is their bearings in the axle i might need to check. I am getting ready to make a trip in it tomorrow to FL and back. I hope there is nothing serious wrong with it. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Has lubing the drive shaft lube points made any difference? Check the oil level in the rear end, it could be low or be contaminated with water which would make it appear milky in color. A noise like you described is usually pinion bearing or ring and pinion ingagement related. I have seen some be noisy for years with no problems, and others make noise for a few days then crap out on ya.
