I'm probably going to be doing a rear spring lift in conjunction with new tires, and I figure I otter do the fishplate thing while I'm at it.

Can the fishplating be safely done with the arms still in the vehicle, or should they be removed for the procedure? My big concern is that if they're still on the vehicle and the person doing the welding uses an arc welder, it could potentially toast the electronics.

Nah. As long as they don't ground it on the posisitive side of the system!!! haha As long as they put the ground on the frame, it will be fine. I personally woudl remove them to make sure I got the best welds possible there. Get emmmHOT!! Megablast weld

Keep in mind here that the welding current runs between the positive and negative leads, the path of least resistance and all that. I generally keep the ground very close to the actual work, makes a better weld and should prevent any current running through out the truck.

I have welded on my truck before no problem. I just unplug the ecu to be safe.

IIRC, the factory manual advises removing connections to the alternator, the battery and the computer before doing any welding on the vehicle...
