I am going to be back in So. Cal. in may. I have wheeled all over Anza and now am looking for something different but not radical. My ride there is my ride home. If you have any trails/rec areas that are still open(thank you diane finestein) please let me know. I am stuck in Texas and no where to go.

if you pass through AZ on I-10, raw deal and the terminators aren't too bad just north of phoenix. it'll be hot though.

Come on Valley, It's not that Hot is it?

Actually, I'm thinking of moving out there to your part of the woods (or desert). Is the summer bearable? At least I could afford a house where I could actually work on my jeep.

it's hot in may. last week it got up to 95. in the 80's this week. very nice. it really sucks july and aug because of the humidity. anything below 105 is ok. but the thing is, i did my front axle u joints in the driveway with the garage door open, in a t-shirt in late jan. no way i would have done that when i lived in washinton. at least not without my carrharts on. and ski gloves. and a shop heater. if you're planning on moving to the phoenix area, it's very nice about 10 months a year. where i came from, it's nice about 3 months a year. i love the weather here but it does get hot. last summer me and a friend were working on my car. we could only handle about 20 min in the garage and go back to the pool to cool off. it took several weekends at 20 min a pop to get the car fixed. i would definitely recommend moving to the southwest though, especially for the winter months. it's like spring and fall up north. spring and fall are like summer, but summer is a taste of hell.

Near Anza, there is the Anza-Borrego desert area, with lots of wheelin' there. From there you can go south, east or north to more desert, and mucho wheelin areas.. if you know where the lefty's feinstein and boxer and the ecco terrorists haven't the shut the desert down. Stoddard Wells and Johnson Valley to name a couple wheelin areas. Those are 'open' desert areas. Johnson Valley has the world famous 'Hammer' trails if you like to bust axles and modify your sheet metal. Of course, as others mentioned, the desert is an oven from May to through August. Anza gets a bit hot then too. Even die hard desert rats like myself tend to stay out of the desert once the temps get over the 100 mark. Check out the BLM website for desert wheelin' places and info. There's always the Big Bear area at around 6000' elevation, and it's not too hot there even in the summer (usually). If you have the time and effort to join a Jeep club, there's lots of those out here and they usually know the best and closest areas to go. See you on the trails..

No hard feelins about Texas. I always wanted to live here but then I get put in South Texas and to do any outdoors activities you better have the dinero. Too many deer. If you know of places here or good clubs please foward the info. I am not a mud runner. I have to do that at work too much to enjoy it on my off time.
I just miss the desert. Grew up in Glamis and Anza all my formative years. Thanks y'all. Pasan un buen dia.
