Next month I'm planning to do some offroading around the Sedona and North Rim areas. I'm looking for suggestions to some fun trails. I'm all locked up and so are the other vehicles going with me. Is there a good book I can get on 4x4 Arizona trails? Thanks for any input you can give me.

Charles Wells books on Colorado are fantastic, so would presume this book on Arizona is likewise.

Pretty much all of the trails in the entire state are closed due to fires or extreme fire danger. Check ahead and make sure your trails are indeed open.

Sedona pretty much has 3/5 trails. Middle of the road nothing rear hard.

Go with the Wells book.

If your wanting to do any Rock Crawling, the only worthy trails open in the state right now are on BLM land north of Phx. These are the Terminator Trails, and the other trails in the same area. Lower Terminator These trails are best run very early in the morning or at night due to heat.

The North Kiabab Nat. Forest (the North Rim) is partialy closed too, and fire restrictions are in place. Kiabab Closure Info, Map Sedona is closed to wheelin', and even Oak Creek Canyon is "restricted" for travel on State Hyway 89A.

it's pretty bad here right now- personally, I'd suggest that you wait till we get some rain, and things open up again. I've never seen things look so bleak- many of the plants look dead or close to it.

Thanks for the info about the trail closures. I will definitely get the Wells' book and do some calling to see what's open. Since I'm not going until the end of July perhaps you'll get some rain from those monsoon type storms in the South.If not, then, it looks like a major change in plans for my vacation. Let's see, Arizona's on fire, Colorado's on fire-- how's the offroading in Oregon? Or maybe this is the year I go to Hawaii.

Utah has some awesome wheelin', sight seeing opportunities too- Zion, Bryce Canyon, Canyon Lands, the Moab area, plus lots of high elevation pine country on Hyway 89-

Esp. in the high high country, where it is not dusty dry nor sizzling hot. Only Pike National Forest is closed, on the front range. So no worries.
