Picked up my mail this morning and flipped through Newsweek on my lunch. Their Tip Sheet usually has a small section with a car review 2-3 times a month. The issue dated 3/22 they test an Isuzu Axiom.

The author, Tara Weingarten, briefly describes her days with it driving around L.A. She begins by stating the Axiom is hard to distinguish from the masses. She compliments the interior capacity and comfort but feels her test vehicle with an MSRP of $31,000 isn't worth it.

Some other negatives include the "squishy ride; great on rocky hilltops but not so hot for conering city streets." Then she continues on how she does not feel safe in it because it only has front airbags, no side curtains.

However some more positives win her over some. She likes the power, has a lot of torque in the 250-hp. motor. The seats are good on long drives and the step up height is moderate as well. The styling also is a plus for her opinion but the overall boxy styling let her down.

She concludes by stating the 4wd engagement is easy and perhaps the Axiom is meant for country drives and not city streets.

Just thought I'd share the basis of the article. The standards for the test lean more towards the soccer mom end of the spectrum with no mention of and off road testing, (not because the author is a woman, all NWs SUV tests are conducted this way regardless who writes it). The only time 4wd is used is on a snowy street. I'm down the middle on the article as I have only talked to one Axiom owner who loves his Isuzu co I can't bash or agree with it.

Anyone else catch the article? Any Axiom owners care to chime in with their opinions? Isuzu owners in general?

Thanks
Craig

Love my Axiom, but there were a few items I didn't like when I bought it!

Squishy - Yep! 4 rancho 9000sx' and 912 springs fixed it!

Tires - Terrible! 4 265/70 17" Bridgestone ATs fixed it!

Cornering - I drove it like a race car before I lifted it and bought the larger tires. Hit the sport and power button and the Axiom is an excellent city cruiser!

Clearance - Crank the torsion bars! Took 4 adults for a nice drive on the back roads of Big Bear in style!

My Mountain Bike fits in the rear with the front wheel attached! What more would a guy want!

Only thing I can't get right at the moment is the angle of the front seats. Would like a little more rear ward tilt.

02 Axiom, 2.5" Indy4x Lift, Rancho 9000sx, 265/70 17 ATs, awesome Shrock Works sliders, flipped ball joints and a PV muffler.
