Getting the Wheeling Fever
In a previous post, I complained that my 95.5 rodeo was making a whining noise at 2000 rpm after the dealer replaced the timing belt, tensioner and water pump. Well, I took it back to them a couple days ago and just got it back today. As I drove out of the dealer parking lot, I could here the whining noise and now it vibrates even more. The whine seems to have shifted up the rpm band to around 2200rpm.

The dealer invoice says the following:

"Pulled Timing off and found lettering on belt faceing wrong way. Replaced and noise quieter. Thermostat housing cracked - replaced. Also P/S Pump slight noise."

Well, the noise seems even louder than before and the vibration when the whine occurs can be felt through the accelerator pedal and gear shift lever.

For those experienced DIY-ers who've done the timing belt replacement before, any hints that might help this dealer tech. He seems to need all the help he can get....I'm bringing it back to them again next week.

Well, when you put a timing belt on, it doesn't matter which way the letter is facing. What you don't want to do is pull it off after it's been run and switch it around though. Why did he not go ahead and put a new one on? Seems like cheap insurance to me. I, as a general rule, always put the lettering facing where you can read it from standing in front of the vehicle, but it really doesn't matter.
