Okay, for those of you with a unmodified 22RE and headers..
How much improvement did the headers make? I'm debating getting one, but I don't want to spend the money if I'm not going to feel it.
So, those of you with headers only, how much difference did it make?

I had headers (LC) only for a while on my '85, made a little difference until I also found that the cat was nearly plugged and after replacing that, there was a huge difference, but not sure what was due to the headers and what was due to the cat. Header install

Well, I use to have the complete LCE exhaust. Then I switched to the stock manifold and downpipe and kept the cat-back from LCE. I noticed a slight improvement in lower end performance when I did this (that's where I run ALL the time). My suggestion to you is have someone weld up a custom exhaust (2" cat to muffler, then 2.25" muffler out to the back) and keep the manifold and downpipe the same. I think you'll notice an improvement in your daily driving RPM ranges more than just doing a header. When I did the full LCE exhaust, I noticed an improvement on the highway, but nothing in town. Just IMO, Todd

Thanks for your answers, guys. It looks as though I may just stay with the factory manifold for now unless someone else chimes in.

My experience, 4th gear acceleration from 40mph to 60 mph dropped by 3 seconds. Doug Thorley header, stock cat, 2" cat back Through a 2 1/2" Flowmaster. No righteous seat of pants action, but engines revs quicker and pulls better than it ever did before . No definite MPG gains. Also better pull in 5th gear on freeway. I'll install high flow muffler bearings next
