she is soo fun to drive. Can't wait to take her out wheelin. Even with the high gas prices, I drive her everyday. I have learned to use dielectric grease and the importance of having good and clean connections. A lot of frustration with the electrical system on this rig well mainly with the ignition system only. I have changed the diff fluids and will tackle the tranny fluid and coolant next. I will then mess with the loose steering and front end creaks. I feel I have come full circle back to wrenchin all because of this Montero. From wrenchin with old school toyotas and then Mitsu turboes, to puterin then mtn. biking and now back to wrenchin again. 4 weekends straight at the junkyards and can't wait for the next weekend to go hit em up again. A weird thing I notice is after gassing up with Arco gas, she runs better and I am getting better mileage. almost 190 miles and still a little bit below half tank. although half of that was the trip back from the PNP up in Stockton. All in all, another great addition to my stable.

Ray, my friend, I got 2 sets of manual hubs but unfortunately didn't get any suspension seats. I also helped my buddy get a front axle from a Wagoneer for his Taco SAS. Yeah, you can say I am addicted. MontyMCV, we have a bunch of PNPs around here but no Monty's I wish for more Monteros at the yard.

Good to hear, I might as well do my "review" in this thread. I have had my SWB for 2.5 months now. I will say this, she was/is a bit rough, and my lack of return fuel line and need of a new O2 sensor causes me to get crappy gas mileage. Other than that I dont have a complaint. I never worry about her not starting up, nor am I afraid that she will die on me on the way somewhere. I drive all over the place too. I havent wheeled her hard yet as I have some front end issues I need to work out before tackling that. I have gone down some really muddy service trails and it was nothing.
The engine and transmission are solid, all I need to take care of is a bit of rust and paint it something a little less "yuppie".
Theres actually a V^ with a better body and off road package I am looking at, but the engine is iffy. I have a great engine and so so body.

Hi Boc, good to hear another 89 running good. I used a ND 2 wire 02 sensor, just clipped the original wiring and crimped it to the new 02 sensor, so far working great. I suggested this to Ray too. Around $35 where I get my parts. I also think manual hubs will help a bit in the mpg dept. GL with your truck bro.

boc: I just got done cutting off the back of the 86 if you end up not getting the 89. Don't know how much wrenching you have done yourself. But for me, I can definitely say that I have learned a bit from the dismantling of the 86, and even better, have relieved much angst. I paid a couple hundred for it- probable bad head, rough body (but too bad for yoyur parts), new tranny. I definitely feel I'll get my money's worth all things considered.
If you can get that one for anything south of $500 I'd say go for it...

After work yesterday, noticed the voltmeter pegged at 16v. Got home checked with a voltmeter and sure enough, 18v and saw the battery bubbling. Any update if the 3000gt alts work with the 3.0l? gonna geta reman alt and wanna get a higher rated one. TIA for any help.
