well i'm getting tired with tinkering with my weber carb. the problem is more parts than anything here in mex. impossible to get parts for the thing and sending parts from the usa is a real *****. everything gets held up at the border and taxed heavily, plus it's got some years on it. my best alternative is a motorcraft 2100 series, i think. any suggestions for models and what to look for would be appreciated. thanks in advance....rob

I did the swap in my CJ-5 with a 4.2. The only things that took a little tweaking were rigging up a throtle cable and putting in a manual choke.

I had used a 2100 off of a AMC 304 with the climatic choke, but I understand that some of the 1980's Ford carbs came with a manual choke.

I put a motorcraft 2100 on my cj7/258. it had a holly when I bought it. Found one on ebay and got it for $30 delivered. The holly would stall on hard braking and flood bad on mild slopes. Had to make a small bracket to bolt on for linkage. look for a carb from a mid 70's ford 302 0r 289. the prefered model will have the number 1.08 (venturi size) on the side. rebuild kits for the older models are cheap. I bought one for a 76 Mavrick for $13. You will need an adaptor to fit the carb. They run around $20. The Carb works great. Definatly worth the effort.

thanks for the info. i have just done a "mexican repair" on my weber. this thing has been sucking so much gas (mostly unused) that i resorted to putting paperclips in the jets. remember i'm at 9000 ft, and the altitude requires adjustments. well, i'm waiting, and waiting, and waiting for redline weber to get back to me, a week now.... had to have a temporary fix until i can get a jet kit. the thing is running better than ever. amazing difference. these guys down here at times have the best ideas. comes from being poor your whole life. anyway, once again, thanks for the info on the motorcrafts. does anybody have a motorcraft that used to have a weber? curious to hear from you especially. i've never used a carter, so those comparisons don't speak to me. rob
