Ok, so the weather is getting good, and im taking the doors of my truck. I was thinking about getting the tube type doors. But, im wondering whats the point?

Im not going to fall out of my truck. And if I roll it or get into a accident are the doors really going to protect me? Or are they going to tear through the door frame area at me cause all the force is in one area, where it latches.

Or am I thinking to much? Any negatives you all can think of with having the doors off?

yes when you roll over, the tube doors usually stop a rock or stump from comming in and breaking your legs or worse..plus some states dont like when trucks have their doors off since they dont have a tubbed floor like a jeep and stuff will roll out...make the tube doors yourself and you can make them as beefy as you want but i run a set of tube doors myself and love them.i ran with no doors a couple times and ill stick with the tube doors on

I have a set of half door. I just took out the window and cut the stock door down. Then welder some sheet metal in the gap. I don't have any pics but I know there some on the site. It give the visable of a tube door, but closer to stock look.

Ive been pondering this as well. I think toyota trucks look funny with their doors off since they dont have a tub. Im a fan of half doors. Doors are cheap 25-100 bucks a set. Cutting down doors is less fab work than tube doors, but that could prob be debated.

Two words:

Cup Holders

Seriously, I left the window frame on and had a set of clear windows made for them. When the weather turns bad, like in does in the mountains every afternoon, I just button up the doors.

There's a photo or two of them on my web site.

DonÆt bet you next paycheck on this, there is a lot of work that goes into cut down stock doors if you do them right, but then again I do not like tube doors. Just my preference!!!!!!!

tube doors are nice for swapping in a hurry but half doors keep all the little crap that most people (like myself) tend to have floating around, inside the cab on the trail...as to where tube doors let all that stuff fall out..

pluss if you just happen to be wearing miss-matched socks that day,..no one will laughf at you

half doors are my vote

i seriously doubt that. my last set of tube doors i made only took a couple hours to make and that was taking beer breaks
if it all boils down to either a tube door or half door, i would vote for a halfdoor..but if its tube door or no door, i would go for at least some type of door there..my next set will be halfdoors

Here in CA, you must have 6" between the floor and the top of the cut down doors, on the road.It is illegal to be on the highway w/o doors. A buddy of mine was stopped by the CHP, and the officer actually measured them, fortunately my buddy had made them the right hieght by accident(never looked into the legality of them). I personally do not like the looks of tube doors, they don't look finished. As mentioned you will want a way to keep out the weather, in August it can get pretty cold in the Sierra's. On our way to the Rubicon clean-up, the guys with tube doors had to wear heavy jackets to keep from freezing while on the highway, the guys with half doors didn't fair much better.

More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else.

Good tip Bro.
Wasn't sure if it was legal to pull the doors or not.
