Getting the Wheeling Fever
|
As with so many of my DIY projects, I seem to always get stuck at some point.
I'm trying to replace the power steering pump on my 95.5 Rodeo. I got the lines off the PS pump and went to remove the pulley from the pump and I just can't loosen that bolt. The Haynes manual says to wedge a screw driver through a hole in the pulley and use that to brace the pulley (to keep it from spinning), then loosen the bolt on the pulley. No matter how I place the screw driver, there is always some give and the bolt holding the pulley is simply too tight. I tried knocking it with a hammer, but its just not coming off.
Apparently, I need to get the pulley off first because the PS pump mounting bolts are behind the pulley.
Any tips or know-how to get the pulley off. As with many of my DIY projects, I may have to put it back together and take it to a mechanic after all .

An impact wrench would probably do the trick. Can you remove the bracket that holds the pump to the engine, and hand-carry the whole shebang (shebang, oh, baby, when she moves, she moves **ack** ) into any garage and ask them to use their impact wrench to remove the nut? FWIW, I recommend carrying the pump in one hand and a six-pack of universal lubricant in the other.

Heck with Ricky, I think we all need an apology after that.
Michael (And, today's goal is to hound Randii towards completion)
PS, if you got time to dink on the internet, then you really should be out in the garage assembling your junk.
