Has anybody had any trouble with their speedometers going out? I checked under the truck and it looks like everything going into the tranny is OK. Any other thoughts or experience? It is a 93 Trooper RS. Mike

The cable broke. A new one is going to cost you about $50, I believe.
Unscrew the end of the cable from the tail housing and pull on the middle part. Most likely, it will come apart.

my speedo went bad not long after the truck was purchased...the spring bound up and that was that...but this is not something that happens often. Check the cable.

On really cold days, my gears in my speedometer stick for the first 2 miles or so making a really horrible grinding noise, the speedometer doesnt work too well while this is happening and no matter how hard you hit the dash, it doesnt go away, until you come to a compete stop 2 times (the first stop is up the road, and the second one is on the other side of the mountain and by then the heater is usually blowing out semi warm air). This all happens even tho all the connections are tight.

Did some research into this. There is no speedometer cable for the 93 Trooper. However, there are two vehicle speed sensors. One attaches to the rear of the transmission just like the older cable driven speedos. The other is part of the speedometer assembly in the console. The shop manual provides a procedure to test the sensors. Will let everyone know how those tests turn out in a day or two. Mike

If you have crossed water lately it will be your transfer case speed sensor that went bad
