Engine Compartment Color? #431791 04/08/04 06:44 PM

My brother is looking at a 96 T100 that has 86K on the odometer - aside from some minor body damage on the rear, it is spotless. The odd thing is that the engine compartment is painted matte black while the exterior is green. Between my Dad, my brother, and I we have had 7 or more Toyotas of one description or another and the engine compartments have all been the same color as the body.

For you guys with green trucks, what color is your engine compartment?

This is not a modified vehicle (bone stock 2WD) driven by "an old retired guy". Any good reason for someone to paint the engine compartment? Any way to do it without removing the engine?

Sound suspicious to you?

it has been in a front end wreck. i'll bet $50 on it. teh hood and/or fenders should be the smae color inside the engine compartment. replacement parts come black, and only end up getting paint on the surfaces that you see with the hood closed. look for other signs of it being wrecked. just ask teh guy. if he is the original owner, he knows.

Ah ha! Thanks. I think the truck was taken in trade at a dealer...
