For those that like the "pin" type jackstands, there is someone making the lever style with a safety pin in addition to the lever. I don't recall where I saw it, but it was someplace like Grainger's, McMaster-Carr or.... I'll have to look for them.

I'd love to hear of a case where one failed and how it failed. Anyone personally seen one fail, or do we just hear stories? If I'm wrong I'd really like to know it.
Here's a case for you, sorry you have to read the thread to find the poster's info. http://www.hobartwelders.com/mboard/showthread.php?t=10559Thanks, Al

Everyone be safe , don't work under just a hydralic jack like I see morons doing all the time. Read the thread in the link above. I've seen it happen. Also my brother in law has recounted 3 stories where he's witnessed them fail. As noted previously he's got over a decade of mechanic work under his belt (professional, not backyard). Fortunately, they've never failed while he was underneath. He hates to use them and instead custom fabricated from a solid block of metal a bolt/nut type jack instead (2"x6" bolt that threads into a 4"x6" nut w/ a 9"x1" tall round base). The bolt he made using solid rod and the base is from a piece of solid rod and a piece of 1" thick plate. Perhaps I'll show him those locking pin units.

I'm going to build another set of jackstands. Can you get pics of your BIL's jackstands? I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Al
