I bought a winch <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" /> but it did not come with instructions on how to mount it to my ARB bumper. Anybody got any installation manual lying around?

Thanks.

It should be pretty self-explanatory though. I mounted my winch without looking at the instructions.

By the picture on your website, I see the bumper is already on the truck. Guess what, it has to come off to get the winch inside. Once its off hopefully the holes in the bumper line up with the 4 threaded holes on the bottom of the winch, then its just 4 bolts that hold it in place with lock washers.

And the fairlead attaches with two of those 4 winch bolts. The cable feeds from the 'bottom' of the winch, which will now be facing forward with the cable coming off the low side of the drum I seem to recall. You can rotate the winch clutch cover to put the engage lever in a more convenient place as you wish, just remove the 10 (allen?) bolts and rotate it where you want. Really straightforward.

The solenoid attaches to the top of the bumper or wherever you want. You did get a non-'i' winch, didn't you?

Thank you guys for all your replies. Looks pretty straightforward. I just need an extra pair of hands to help me carry the heavy ARB bumper and winch.

Leo, I just finished an M8000 installation into my ARB Bumper on my 85 4Runner....

Contrary to the instructions and previous reply, you DO NOT have to remove the bumper...

I have all the instructions... The winch instructions is used for the winch wiring, but the ARB bumper instructions have the winch mounting instructions. But it's fairly straight forward...

1. Mount the roller fairlead... Remove the C clips from the two vertical rollers. Hold up to bull bar and mark the holes to drill through the roller fairlead bracket using the bottom two holes. Then drill 1/2" (in about 3 stages, starting 1/4" and then go bigger drill up to 1/2". Keep checking alignment so that the bracket is against top and still centered and the holes line up... Don't bolt up yet. Just test fit.

2. Remove all the allen head screw/bolts on the winch right (drivers side) cover and rotate the cover two holes clockwise. This will rotate the free spool lever so that it is from the 12-1 oclock to about the 3-4 oclock position. Retighten all the allen head screw/bolts.

3. Lift or bench press the winch up through the bottom (you'll have just about 1/8 - 1/4 clearance and have to work at it a little...). Once you have it clear of the bottom lip, you can rest the winch against the bottom lip and not have to hold it as hard. Then get a couple bolts through the front bumper face into the winch mounting holes. The winch bottom holes are in these sliding pieces that fit into the bottom. They slide a little to allow for some play in mounting hole offsets... They want to fall out while lifting and holding the winch up... You might have to remove the allen set screw for the lever to get the winch in. Then just put it back.

3. Get the front bolts in to hold the winch and hold the roller fairlead in. The ARB parts contain two long bolts and lock nuts and washers to remount the two vertical rollers.

4. Wire up the electrical. Mount the solenoid box with the ARB bracket and parts. Then route the solenoid wires to the winch. There is an F1, F2, A, and small wire winch/solenoid ground. Then a long black winch/battery neg, and long positive cable. The F1 from solenoid wire (red I think) goes to F1 post on winch. The wire and post should be labled... Just match them up. F2 (black I think) goes to F2 post. F1 and F2 are the two in the same vertical plane. A post is off to the side.

5. Test the connection. Attach the pos/neg battery/winch connections, make sure small solenoid ground is grounded to winch, and insert controls and test....

Regards,

Tracy Hanson

I looked at my bumper and there is no way I can mount the winch without removing it. I wish it was that easy Tracy. I will have to find time and an extra pair of hands to get this mounted.
