went to 5.13's

Where did you track those down? I remember a post here about them being for the overseas diesel models...

Thanks,

Jay

You are probably thinking of this post.

I think you are getting your hopes up on this one. Mike has D44's front and rear.... so there is no need to 'track down' special gear sets. Its going to be a lot bigger issue for someone still running the front 10 bolt. Sorry to break your gentle spirit

Crap. Sorry about that.

When I start thinking 37" and 38" tires, I do not stay focused on Isuzu IFS running those. In fact, were I to move up to those sizes (and the weight of them) I'd most definitely be running 60's or a 14-bolt rear at least. I could just see snapping shafts left and right with that much rubber spinning around...

Sarcasm duly noted...

Probably wouldn't be able to swing ($$$) a set even if I could find them. It would foster a sense of Cosmic Completeness or <insert favorite pyscho-mystical terminology here> something if some Isuzoid somewhere could actually latch onto one of these 'unobtainium' supposed factory gearsets...

Since Feb. I've had the 5.38's in my pick up (stock 4.55/31's). With the 33'3 it feels like a new engine.

I have 167,000+ miles on it and can sustain 65-70 mph on grades (I'll be running up Hwy 50 early May, Randii's neck of the woods , I'll get a true test then ).

Haven't seen much of a difference with gas milage . My last fill up was calculated at about 19mpg. That's not taking in consideration of tire size/gearing change over stock. Straight freeway I think I can get well over 200 miles on my 14 gal tank.

I'm real satisfied with the 5.38/33's combo.

for the record, with the 2.8 and auto trans, I wouldn't want to run 33's with 5.38 gears. I've got 4.77's and 33" tires and even that puts engine RPM a wee bit higher than I'd like to run all the time.

I think 4.56 with 33's puts the engine in a much happier RPM range on-road - the problem at that point is horsepower, not gearing

please note that I know nothing about the transmission gear ratios in manual trans, or 2.6l equipped trucks

I was wondering what size tire to run with 5.38 gears i might buy a set since they are going out of production. What would be the best size if i was running the truck as a daily driver

Here is some info
At mph - Speedo says mph
30 - 34
45 - 49
55 - 61
65 - 72
75 - 83 @ 3600 rpm
Yes my gas milage sucks.
