Getting the Wheeling Fever
Just finished my 86'. I have a 4.5" Rubicon Express Lift, 3" Body lift, TJ Flares & 39 Swampers. I have replaced the steering components w/ Currie pieces, rebuilt P/S box(NAPA), new drop pitman arm, Borgeson shaft (Everything). The steering is tight, no play at all & just had it aligned & it tracks great. I have one steering stabalizer. O.K. for the problem. The steering is so sensitive that any movement I make, basically I'm changing lanes or darting over. My questions is what can I do to tighten the steering up or make it less responsive. If I move the wheel at all it just takes off in that direction. Just doesn't give me a good feeling when doing 65 - 70. Any and all input is always appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

There's an adjustment on the top of your steering box. It takes and allen wrench with a locking nut around it. I've been messing with mine all week trying to find a happy point. Not sure if having it too much one way or another is a bad thing for your steering box or not....so experiment at your own risk!

I have never had to adjust that allen head nut on the top of my steering box. You should only have to adjust it every 150k miles or so. It's not a freeplay adjustment on the steering. If steering is loose or tight it's a 96% chance it's not in the box, it's other places.

I have no good tech other than that. They didn't sell you a fast ratio box, did they? Did everything grease alright after you installed it all? Is this a stock axle, or did you cut it down to fix the rig in this buildup? SOrry I'm of no real help <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

the re-built steering box being too tight is fairly unlikely but you never mentioned the size of the steering wheel? if you're running a small wheel with all that new stuff it could be overkill especially with tires that will have a tendency to follow imperfections in the road. just a guess again you didn't talk about the size of the wheel
