2000 Air filter question #440849 04/25/04 04:44 PM

I bought a K&N filter off of ebay. All it is is the element itself, no hard plastic.

The filter that is in there now is a paper filter in a non removable plastic shell.

K&N said the dealer should be able to supply the plastic part, but the deal doesn't list it in their catalog.

Did I just get the wrong filter from ebay, or is something missing?

This seems to be an ongoing issue with K&N's off of ebay. As this happened not long ago to another person on the board. They didnt recieve the plastic part either.

To see if the filter is the right one just check it against your old one.

Get a hold of the seller and ask for the rest of the filter.(plastic thingy)

The thing I don't understand is why doesn't the dealer show this part?

I doubt anyone will keep this part around since it comes with the filter and isn't something you'd need separately. I'd call K&N directly and see if they will sell you one...

is there anyway you can use a dremel or some type of cutting tool to remove the plastic holder from the stock filter? All mine does is just lay right beside the filter...it doesn't "lock" onto it in any way.

Be sure to do a throttle body cleaning at least every 7500-10000 miles b/c the oil from the filter will get on your MAF sensor and cause your engine light to come on and crap like that.

The parts store said it's a dealer item only.

The plastic on this one wraps around the paper part of the element, instead of being behind it.

Thanks for the link.

My K&N came with a plastic spacer since it's thinner than the stock filter or the aftermarket paper variety. That part is only used with a K&N...
