Cool pics Todd! I lost track of this story, the last pictures I had seen looked like a real life HELL! I would have imagined the damage would be alot more extensive. Noticed the scale of the photo indicating 50m-scale.

Any clue as to what the total fatality count was? Originally the news was saying 3000 with as many as 12000 injured. Following day the numbers were down to like 48. Big change...for the better of course. My folks left for China on Sunday...be there for 3 weeks, so any news from this neck of the woods catches my interest.

Guys,

I do business in Korea and I was there in Korea at the time this story broke...on the good side!

Talk about a country that needs serious regime change. The f@#$@#$#g bastid North Korean regime as usual is milking the misery of its people for material gain.

For example, the site of the train accident is only minutes away from the border of prosperous northern China. The Chinese told the NKs to send the wounded/dying to their hospitals but the NKs refused, presumably to hide the accident from the world (what's with these communists?!?).

Later as the story leaked out, the NKs made it public and appealed for world aid. They started asking not only for food and medicine but for heavy construction equipment, cement, and other materials. The amount was above and beyond what would be needed to fix the rail yard and local surrounding buildings. Yes, most agree that the majority of that stuff would be diverted to the NK military.

My feeling is that they intentionally made their people suffer only to make the tragedy worse in front of the cameras. That is to say, children with skin peeling off their faces elicits more western aid. BAS#@DS!!!

Furthermore, the NKs refused to allow a ready convoy of South Korean trucks loaded with food and medicine to drive through the DMZ and through NK. And yes, presumably because they dont want their populace to see SK trucks rolling through their country and probably also b/c they think they are spies. Instead (and this is where the absurdity gets even greater), they wanted the SKs to boat the s!#@t in which would take days and not hours. For reference's sake, Korea is the size of New Jersey.

Another angle showing before and after:

I think this angle shows just how devistating it was. Oh and by the way, That South Korean relief shipment finally docked in North Korea today...hope nobody was anxious.

Uh yeah. I'm sure all those kids who died and suffered were hardcore, willing communists. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

There's a big difference, Chris, between the regime and the people who live under their guns.
