how low would you air down on 35x12.5 on 15x10's? #443543 05/01/04 04:10 AM

still have my 15x10's haven't found a good deal on some 15x8's yet so i'm a little unsure as to how low i can actually air down and wheel without losing my tire... i thought i'd ask really quick before i head out for this weekend, normally i run them down around 17psi.. would love to go lower, what's safe and what's not? i do have a fullsize spare but i rather not have to pull it out unless i have to.

Even before I had my wheels beadlocked I ran them as low as 5 PSI on snow runs and 10 PSI in the rocks. My wheels are 15 x 10. Why do you want 8's???? I very rarely popped a bead!!!!

Hell, 17 psi you are barely aired down. Most of the guys I wheel with air up to 15-20 for the ride home. Last weekend down at the Toyota Jambo, most of the rigs had their tires down to 10 psi on the rocks, those w/o sticky tires had to go a little lower. For rock crawling my buddies usually run 10 psi in their MT's, in the snow as low as needed. With my At's I usually run 12-15 in the rocks and about 2-3 in the snow, sometimes as low as 1 psi. I have'nt popped a beed since going to a 10" wide rim, before the tens, I had popped about 8 beeds in the snow. The sidewall on MT's is a lot stiffer than AT's, to get good sidewall flex the MT's usually have to run a few psi lower than their AT counterparts. It is only a matter of when not, if you are going to pop a bead while wheeling. With the 15x10's you should be able to run 8-10 psi without running much risk of loosing the bead. You don't need to change out the tire if you pop a bead, just jack the truck up until the tire hangs free, and hit it with your onboard air. We have reset tires this wasy, that have popped both the inner and outer beads. Loosing a bead is nothing to be concerned about, once you fix your first one you wont mind the next one, or the next one, or the next.........

If you don't have an onboard air system, go to KMart/Walmart etc., buy yourself two of the 5 gal air tanks link them together and fill them at any gas station. The air should be enough to reset the bead. You can help seat the bead quicker with a ratchet tie down strap. Take the strap, wrap it around the tire and tighten it down until the tire starts to bow. The strap will help to push the beads outward, requiring less air to reseat the bead. The rachet strap works great when you peel both beads.<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Some 4 wheel magazine recently had an article about resetting beads. They were talking about using starting fluid or another flameable to get the sidewalls out onto the bead. Has anyone tried this? (ie, spraying it in there, then lighting a match!)

yes the starting fluid thing does work, seen it done a couple times, just throw the match and turn your back because the tire is gonna jump off the ground about 3ft....

kind of dangerous but it does work

i had a lot of trouble setting the bead on my bfg m/ts on just one of the tires...

friends with the guy at the shop and he couldnt get it either, he has a 5gal tank with a large vavle and a flattened piece of exhaust pipe, fill the tank up shove teh piece of pipe in the side of rim/tire and open large valve and filled it right up
