My 80 CJ has always been hard on right front tires really eating them up on the outer edge. Just about a year ago I did a gear ratio change so while I was at it, I completely rebuilt the front axle--ball joints and all then took the Jeep for front end alignment. What the tech found was that the right front has 1.75 degrees positive camber and the left has 1.1 degrees. He suggested that I decamber the right side in order to correct the tire wear pattern. So last weekend I put an offset bushing in the right steering knuckle that would decamber that wheel by .75 degrees. I didn't realize how much that would move the knuckle inward toward the differential and right now the axleshaft dust shield clears the axle housing by less than 1/16 inch. Will I have any problems in tight turns in 4WD?

I hate to say it, but that much camber is likely caused by a bent axle housing. I see that regularly at the shop where I work. If that tests ok (complete dissasembly and internal alignment bar used) less than 1/8" bent is OK. The other way is to install chevy style brakes, this requires redrilling the chevy/wag style caliper brakets and then cutting off the OE caliper ears on the knuckles, then you could use camber shims behind the spindles. This is a way better aligning system than the excentric bushings.

Superdawg, It think it was like that from the factory. I bought the Jeep brand new in 80 and it always has been a pig on right front tires. Last year I did a gear ratio change on it and while I had the front apart I sighted through the axle housing and everything lined up concentrically. Also, remember that it has too much positive camber so it would have to be bent downward.
I think this is one that got by the factory QA. Either a Monday morning hangover or Friday afternoon payday axle!

The eyeball gets it pretty close for sure. I've seen them bent in all directions though.
Have fun
