I have been thinking about putting together a rear disk brake conversion kit. I work in a machine shop durring the school year and I was wondering what kind of interest there would be if I put together a kit. And what types of things would you guys be looking for in this kit. Things like rotor size and retaining the e-brake.

Let me know what you think, I am also trying to keep the prices low as to make them affordable.

I did a conversion on my Baja Bug, and LOVE IT!! I would consider a disc kit for my 4 Runner if the kit was very high quality, retained an E brake, came with everything needed for the job, like proportioning valve, hardware, etc. The main concern would be what kind of warranty it came with, the reputation of the company/people making the kit, how long the kit was tested for before being available for purchase. As a regular "save up so I can buy it" kinda person, I like to spend my $$$ wisely.

The most important thing you need to do is come up with a caliper for the reat that is a good match for the fronts. The Monte Carlo caliper that some existing kits use is a front caliper with 1 very large piston, and IS NOT a good fit for this system.

Next is the e-brake. Some people use a Cadillac caliper with e-brake but say it is a PITA to keep adjusted.

Good luck.
