Like it says. I need your guys wisdom on deciding which brand of hitch, class, and wiring to install on my newly purchased 1992 4runner with factory 31" tires. (only 24k miles, but that's another story ) I have found no "T" connector harnesses for this particular vehicle. I know nothing about wiring this stuff up, and the wiring adapters for this model all seem to fall into the "generic fit" category. I don't know what ones are good, and what is crap. Same goes for the hitches. THANKS! Jason

You got a choice, go with a ball on the factory bumper or go with a frame mounted hitch for more towing capacity.
Either one you can do yourself. Just make sure the frame hitch will clear your spare. Any hitch worth considering will be a direct bolt on-no drilling required.
The wiring I would do myself. Most of the hitch places use them little blue clips to attach to your bed wires. With those, a month down the road, things won't work, so buy the proper taillight/trailer light converter and connect it yourself. There, things need to be soldered and shrink-wrapped properly to last.
I prefer 'Hidden Hitch'products.

Thanks for the input YODADDY. Anyone have any part#'s or anything for a good wiring kit they've used? I found many universal ones, but am unsure of exactly which one I need. I think I'm going to get the hidden hitch #87020 class III hitch.

not quite. there is NO t-connector until like 92-93'ish. you have to wire straight into the wires...

I don't think you need the T connector to use that. All you do is unplug the wire harness going to the tail lights and plug this thing in one side and plug the other side in to the tail light. The wires then goes to the hitch.

problem with 89.5 to like 92-93'ish, is that the wiring harness terminates at the tail light assembly.
the only connectors are hidden behind the body panels.
93 and up had a t-connector somewhere along the bottom of the tailgate. that's where you insert these T's and makes hookups painless...

Ahhh ic... thanks for not flaming me..... In that case, his only choice is to splice the wires then.
