Now a 2" notched center support bearing modification to allow a 2" engine and drivetrain lift sounds like a better solution than the extended transmission and transfercase shifters and it just so happens I bought a spare TC shifter when my mechanic began hacking/welding on my original. The engine lift is a no-brainer with my electric radiator fan so my only unknown is whether there would be any issues with the front driveline. I never wanted a huge lift but I really hate how much clearance the crossmember steals. I really like my lift but want my spring mounts to be the only protrusion visible on a side view. Looks like my mechanic is gonna be getting some more use out of his welder. Brew

Here is what you would need to do except you would still need to accomodate the carrier bearing. Erik has a single piece rear CV shaft, so he did not care about a carrier bearing. He only did this to make the CV shaft clear teh crossmember when he added the dual crawler.

Erik's Notched Crossmember

With a full 2" drivetrain lift, you would not want to run at high speeds in 4WD. The driveshaft angle is too steep at the pinion. Since Erik built his own front IFS lift on the T100, he was able to design in a better pinion angle.

Erik's T100 Front Pinion

I would try to figure out how to modify your IFS lift to allow you to rotate the front pinion up like Erik. If you did that, you would be home free.

SurlynKid,
I don't have an IFS lift rather I am using a 2" B.Lift so perhaps I will have to leave the 2"/1" as my best alternative. I may just deal with a 2" gain on a "stock" budbuilt and call it cheap versus reengineering a solution my mechanic would have to try to fabricate. Brew

with no susp lift, your driveshaft angles will be better and may not cause a front driveshaft problem. i bet it will work in your case.

A DT lift should not cause any front driveshaft problems. Most of the 4" lift kits don't change the front pinion angle at all and don't have problems.
The Superlift kit did though (another reason I like the SL kit), and I liked that, so I copied it.

I guess I need to do some updates to my page. My 4runner crossmemeber doesn't look like that anymore...

no, it is only bad with a 4" susp lift and a drivetrain lift. even then, it is find a off road speeds. you just would not want to be going fast.

FWIW, I've got no 4wd vibes on my truck w/ the 4" SL + 2"/1" DTL. Not just offroad speeeds, 50-60 MPH in the snow/wet roads in the mountains. Maybe that's because of the good pinon angle...? I do know that the CV in the front driveshaft is near its stock angle limit though.

my front cv angle was so extreme that i went and checked rogerb's site for max rpm at different angles. i then kept it that max rpm when wheeling. mine was horrific compared to yours.

Thanks for the birthday present Scott! smile
Here are some pics of the first T100 dual case crossmember, both installed and not. Note that this one was bent with an additional 1" of drop for the customer. I forget why tho...
