This is the latest spy shots from www.thecarconnection.com

This has got to be the ugliest rig I've ever seen Toyota build.

The double cab wheel base will be 5" longer and 4" wider than the old Tacoma. Hope you don't care about breakover angles or trying to turn around on the trails. The new TAcoma is big. At least as big as the Tundra. Gone are the days of compact trucks. Great, just in time for $3 a gallon gas. Also, notice that ground clearance has been substantially reduced. Much lower frame this time, it looks like.

I'll bet the original Tacoma used truck values go way up.

The auto biz isn't that much different than anything else. One network comes out with a new idea like reality TV and before you know it you've got reality TV for a zillion hours a week. Same with cars - a new idea every once in a while with lots of copying in-between.

It seems to almost be a law of physics that car models get longer, wider, heavier - goes right along with the fact that people are getting bigger and especially in the US fatter. My 4Runner isn't big - its fine for me, but I can certainly see why the all-American fatman would feel cramped and want something bigger.

It will be interesting to see what the cost of gas does. I predict the cost is going to stay up. Who in their right mind would invest in new facilites to make more gas if you can just raise the price on what you produce now and make more money?

Apparently hybrids are selling like hotcakes, but people are still buying the big vehicles too. A few bucks more a year isn't much to people paying $50k for a vehicle. Of course, if you can't afford the gas for the car you have or a fuel-efficient car, you've got real problems.

I thought the exact same thing. Looks like a Dakota!

I'm not surprised though. I figured they would butcher it.

That's funny, Dakota was the first thing that came to my mind also. I quess I wasn't alone.

Well there is some good news. Toyota will continue to build capable compact 4x4s. The only problem is, the nearest one will be about 8000 miles away.

Anyone know if the 2005 Hilux is going to change, or is it going to stay on the 86-95 platform?
