 th400 leak

my th400 is leaking out the back. bad. if i pop off the t-case, is there a seal on the rear shaft that can be easily replaced or is it more involved? like taking the whole tranny apart to get to it? i've looked through the haynes manual and did some searching on the internet but haven't found any info on it. thanks for any help.

if it is like most of the other trannies out there, you shouldn't need to disasemble the tranny. just get a long pry bar and pry the old one out (first make sure the new one is the right one) then get some PVC that is the right sive and drive the new seal on.

thanks, i've had the t-case off several times but i just can't picture what it looks like in there. one of my buddies told me there are 2 seals and i can get to them from the back. i hope he's right.
