What are the differences between the two and how can I tell which one is currently installed if I am under the truck looking at it (physical features or markings)? I found an 85 that needs a transmission and i have also found a cheap 83 transmission. Will they be a direct swap and no problems for the transfer case and driveshaft or will I have to make other modifications as well? Going the other way would be. You would be going through a little pain to end up worse off. That may explain the price.
