Nice Montero there.

I have used both the cone filter and the regular drop-in filter. I found that the cone adds alot of noise and removed it since I was worried of excess dirt getting in. I put my stock box back on and its great smile nice and sealed w/ the K&N drop in but I also removed it and went w/ a paper Napa GOLD filter. I have a "drop in K&N" if you would like it PM me and you can have it just pay for shipping.

Sucks dirt, sucks water, sucks <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" /> Do a search for extensive discussions.

I would really suggest buying a NAPA Gold. It is a quality paper filter, avoid FRAM since they tend not to fit in the stock air box very well. Another good filter to consider is Purolator, Honda OEM filters are made by them.

After using K&N, I prefer the mitsu stock,,it's actually one dollar cheaper than the Napa Gold, which I believe is a wix filter, and is good.

The concensous from the previous posts were that the stock filter is the way to go.

I recently removed my K&N to clean and oil it and put a new stock filter in for the meantime. I really can't tell the difference yet. Maybe when I put the K&n back in. If I don't, I will just leave the stock filter in.

I have read enough posts that say K&N's increase air flow, but don't filter well. That could explain the filthy condition of my throttle body and ISC, as well as some of the idling problems that went away after I cleaned both.

My 2 cents FWIW, all learned here in these forums. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

There are those, including myself, that do not agree with the anti-K&N BS that has been posted here. I have used K&N units on many different dirt bikes and off-road vehicles, and have never seen an incident where intake dirt caused any problems with cylinder wear. If the K&N unit is oiled properly, it will filter as well as anything out there. My current truck has had the K&N filter for 145K of the 165K on it. Its been used in a variety of very dusty environments and the last compression check I did (10K ago), was excellent.
