I find Mepco Wharehouse in Provo UT consistantly the best on winch prices.

I do have a stock electrical system. With an old Diehard battery, I drained it a couple of times and had to wait for it to charge a little to continue pulling strong. That was only on multiple long hard pulls in a row. I just added an optmia battery. I have not drained it yet with the same ammount of pulling.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

How much is a good price for a 9,000 lb Mile Marker 75 series? The unit I'm interested in (Part Number - 75-50085C) is quoted at US$ 641.00 at http://www.winchesplus.com/index.html . But this does not include the "35 series vehicle adaptor kit" (what the hell is this?).

You need at least 10500lb winch since lower output from stock pump converts into 8500-9000 lb. Also buy 70 series winch with 34 series remote solenoid adaptor kit. 75 series winch comes with solenoid mounted on the winch. It extends beyond the exterior dimensions of the winch itself making it harder to fit. 75 series wont fully and/or easily fit between frame rails because of that. I know that from experience. I'm currently monking around with one. With 70 series you can mount solenoids anywhere under the hood. Only hoses attach to winch.

Otep,

Why would you want to hassle with hydraulic.
Just get electric.
Warn magnum are a cheaper 9000 Lbs. version and they sell for around $449 at Clemson 4 Wheel. That would be a great starter winch although if you could afford I would highly recommend 9500XP that are low provile and completely water proof.

Hydraulic are only highly recommended by Lyoyd just because he broke cheapy REP8000 Ramsey Winch before. REP8000 have permanent magnet motor that loses its power once its overheated. Most of newer winch have series wound motor that are a lot more durable. Most off roader liked the electric better due to speed and could run without the engine running. If you run the winch continuously then hydraulic has its advantages.

Man that is the first time I have looked at the amp draw on a winch. That is enough to make one crap themself. 559 amps! I always figured it was high but sheesh. I am suprised you guys dont blow the battery out of under your hood.

How many amps does it take to crank our engines? Man with a draw like that I would hate to use it at night when lights are needed. With all that said I would still like to have one <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

I also heard that if you get a 9000lbs milemarker, it will only pull about 7k or so, due to our stock pumps. You would have to upgrade to a 10k winch to equal what your lookin for.

I have a HS9500. Great winch and the "HS" stands for high speed, so it pulls great. Most likely, you wont have to continuiously pull yourself or someone else back to back. Up to you and what you plan on using the winch for. I would just make sure to spend the money right the first time, you'll like it better in the long run. My $0.02. Good luck with finding the right winch.

Angelo

Won't my battery get flat as a pancake with that Magnum winch?

How about Mile Marker electrics? Their 9,000 lb models fit the budget, too.

Also dropped by http://www.4x4rockshop.com/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=9627 and saw this MIL76-50050C for $539.00. Are there any hidden costs?

The Warn winches are just a bit expensive at the moment.

Any other brands/models you can recommend? I'm such a newbie with these things. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/drunk.gif" alt="" />

You can find a MileMarker E9000 for $449 at e-winches. They also have the 12,000 lb. model for $619 (it's the same model you found for less--I didn't see the 9000 lb model for less, but I didn't have a lot of time to search). The 12k is the one I have on my wish list. Considering the differences in design (wound versus permanent motor, first and foremost), you get more than just 33% more pull for your the extra 20% in price... Still far below the Warn asking prices, though.

There's no reason for a winch to pull over 500 amps at load. That's an indicator of poor design (or severe cost and reliability sacrifices) and likely early failure. At peak pulling capacity, the 12,000 lb. MileMarker tops out around 400 amps. The 9000 at about 300 amps, and yes, even that will definitely do your battery in after heavy use. It's easy to see why a lot of guys use a marine deep cycle as their secondary battery, but you still have to recharge them before you get stuck again. I have a high output alternator that kicks out over 70 amps at idle. It jumps past 110 when cruising. If you plan to winch a lot, you probably should budget for both of those upgrades, as well.
