im trying to take the body off of an 87 4 runner to detail the frame and im having a problem getting the 2 seperated. besides all the obvious and the 8 mounts, all the engine components, wires, and linkage for the transfer case, steering shaft etc.. what else could be holding the damn thing on? there has to be something i have overlooked. i can literally pick the whole truck up using the body. the mounts are loose when i do this. thanks

Havent looked over my 87' 4Runner so much as to know what all is connecting the frame and body....but might try looking at how the rollbar mounts. I cant recall if its bolted to the frame or not. If you have everything disconnected like wires, brake lines etc...then the only connection should be the body mounts.

HAve you checked the fuel filler hose? Easily over looked. Also check parking brake cable and fuel lines. IIRC the fuel lines are bolted to the bottom of the body and not the frame.
Brian K. Gallus I have nothing important to say.

yes i got the filler hose, brake lines were they come down to the union block on the frame and the supply and return off the engine. even if there were a few lines still connected they wouldnt support the weight of the frame and drivetrain when i pick up the body with the forklift ya know. how about under the tank.. anything there?

try lifting one side at a time , lift it up a bit and have a look at whats holding it down ...if its not lifting at all .. you have missed bolts . work on one side at a time , and go down the length of the frame ...
then do the other side ..
dumb question , but you got the 2 front rad support bolts right ?

Speedometer and e-brake cables? Ground wires from the firewall to the head or fender to block.

you know what it ended up being? there are 2 special mountes in front of the rear fenderwell under the rear seat. these bolts need to be turned about half way from inside the cab to release the frame from the bolt. it wasnt just a matter of taking the nut off and lifting the body off. thanks for the replies guys.
