Getting the Wheeling Fever
Greetings again everyone. Doing quite a bit of work on the ol' Isuzu these last couple of weeks and am curious if I might have messed up while working on the timing belt this last weekend. I haven't finished yet and wanted to see if I might have messed up by doing the following. I had to put the crankshaft bolt back in to turn the engine to the correct alignment for the timing marks. One, if I moved it backwards by quarter or half turn instead of moving with the normal engine pattern, could I have caused an issue? Secondly, after I took the timing belt off, I went to take the crankshaft bolt off, but found it was stuck on there pretty good. Now this is with the belt of mind you. I inadvertantly turned it about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way counter-clockwise trying to remove the bolt. Could I have done any damage in this short amount of travel? Is there anyway to check easily or do I have to wait till I get everything back together and fire it up? One last question, is it normal at around 150k to have quite a bit of old oil and muck on the lower and bottom of the upper timing covers? It's also quite filthy on the lower components. I'm not sure if I might have a seal leak or if it might be the oil pump. Any guesses on a 3.2 SOHC? I'm going to clean it pretty thoroughly and check for leaks in a week or two. I am wiping down the heavy stuff but was thinking of trying to spray some Gunk engine cleaner to get the rest. Is that advisable in this area, or should I just stick to the ol' elbow grease and paper towels method? Thanks guys.

According to what I've read on these forums, the 3.2 is a noninterference engine, so you didn't screw anything up.
As far as the oil and muck, I'd go ahead and use the Gunk or whatever brand you want to clean it up and try to find a leak. The last time I had my junk disassembled to the point where yours is now, I went ahead and replaced the oil pump seal and front crankshaft seal just for the heck of it. They're cheap, and you'll not be happy if you have to take all that stuff off again later just to replace a couple of $5 seals.
