Alright folks before everyone nails me I did search but everytime you type in "engine" or "swap" you get lots of info...LOL

Has anyone done a swap to a 4.3L that has had the 3.2L Auto tranny? After reading on Bruce's site it was looking like a whole drive train swap was necessary and at this point I don't know if I want to get into all that...later maybe but not at the moment.

Looking for an option for a decent motor swap to get rid of the 3.2 SOHC.I have thought about V-8 and all that but I like the 3.1 or 4.3 better.\

Just trying to feel this out right now so it's just an opinion thread.

StinkBug has a 4.3 in his Amigo, right? But I don't know which engine/tranny he started with.

I believe so. The back of your block has two bolt patterns. The one you're using now, and one for a GM 60* engine. So the interchangability is backwards from what you're wanting to do.

3.5 Direct Injection!(?) I'm only guessing that the 3.2 and 3.5 are physically interchangable.
How about that supercharger on the main Isuzu page here at the wire?

yes, stinkbug has done a 4.3L/4l60/d300 into his amigo.

you are correct in that it will be an entire driveline swap to use this engine.... that is, unless you come across one of the ultra rare, discontinued, Advance Adapters kits that will allow you to use the Isuzu tranny... Jake (amigo90) is using one of these.

I believe Dallas aka 'Stinkbug' is running some variation of the 700R tranny.

He started with the basic 2.6 I4 with the MUA5 tranny, 1989 Amigo.

You're both partially right. Technically its a 700R4, but from what my tranny shop tells me there really is no difference between it and a 4l60.

As for the swap, there's really no way to bolt the 4.3 to either of the trannys isuzu uses in the 3.2 equipped trucks, except maybe with that ultra rare impossible to find adapter. To tell the truth I'm not sure why you would swap a 3.2 for a 4.3. The chevy has a bit more torque, but thats about it. If I had it to do over again I'd drop in a 3.2 with a 60* bolt patern 700R4 and the same Dana 300. The 3.2 is a really nice motor, and so is the 4.3, but I really dont see enough benefits to one or the other to go through the time and expense of swapping one for the other.

I am doing this same swap as we speak. You will have to do a complete drivline swap. be ready to spend alot of time searching and money for the swap. lol I had no idea it would be this tough. When I swap my 2.3 for the 2.8 it was a cake walk compared to this.

Later,
Daniel
