My 85 front axle is filled with a nice diff oil/grease milkshake. Since i'm gonna tear down this axle and build it up right with new shafts and such, where can i get a kit that includes all the necessary seals and such? The typical toyota dealer should carry it, correct? Anyother recommendations?

JT and All Pro have a kit with almost everything for $100.

Several places have more complete rebuild kits:

All Pro

Spector Off Road

Here's my writeup and links page on the rebuild:

Is there anything special about the hub socket? I know my IFS Tacoma only uses a 36mm socket to remove the hubs...and i can leech free grease

Randy's Ring and Pinion has a complete kit including Koyo bearings for $108, I think.
