Already replaced fan clutch, flushed radiator, replaced water pump, pulled thermostat, replaced radiator cap. Keep overheating in hot weather, up hills, stop and go traffic and at high speeds. Now what?
thanks in advance!

My '88 has the same issues. The last [color:"red"] two [color:"red"] engines have overheated on interstates (speeds above 65)and sometimes slightly heats up after driving an entire day but will slowly cool back down. Then it never heats back up until another day! Do you run oversized tires combined with the crappy auto tranny? If not, Id say try a new radiator, its cheaper than replacing headgaskets. Make sure you have no obstructions in front of the radiator. Depending on the type of flush you did, you could pressurize the coolant system and force any trash out. Ive changed two headgaskets because of excessive overheating and it didnt help a thing!I changed my driving habits, avoiding speeds above 65 and amazingly no more overheating. I have no water leakage or consumption either! So my problem has been narrowed to a mix between overly rich fueling with a weber carb and the large tires I run with the crappy auto tranny. A straight shift, I believe, would make me less susceptible to many of these problems. If yours is an auto with large tires please note that the auto tranny w/ a 22R(e) Toyota setup was the greatest knuckle-dragging event, to ever represent human invention and manufacturing. The Mustang II is not too far behind...

... pulled thermostat, ... Did you just remove the t-stat all together, or replace it? With no t-stat the water can flow thru too fast for the radiator to cool it properly. You could have a bad t-stat and not know it. If you do replace the rad, get a 3 row for a 22RTE and never have a problem again.

That's where I got mine too, from the local GoDan warehouse, $92.16.

thanks in advance! I had heating problems w/ a cheapo CSF 2-row core radiator (new) in my '86 runner w/ 22re. I think it was the design. I didn't overheat, but the temp gauge would go above the middle on flat roads w/ temps at 90F and no AC. Now, I live in Tucson and can easily drive stop & go w/ the AC running in mid-summer, and the temp gauge stays BELOW center all the time. The difference? (1) Modine 3-row core radiator (2) Toyota 82C thermostat (P/N 90916-03083)--it doesn't pull up on the parts computer if you just specify the year and engine (at least it didn't at my local dealer). You need to tell them the exact P/N, or they'll just sell you the standard 85C or 88C thermo. (3) Toyota red coolant mixed 50-50 w/ distilled water Probably (1) and (2) are the main factors. The 3-row core radiator has about 1/2 gallon greater capacity....well worth the money.

A lean condition can also be a factor in overheating. You might also check the timing. My 20R would slowly overheat after I did a complete rebuild on the motor. It took me 3 days to figure out I had the distributor 1 tooth off. Funny thing was the truck ran fine the whole time.
