My alarm has lost it! #478215 07/20/04 01:12 PM

The stock alarm system on my '97 4Runner has a mind of its own. It goes off inadvertantly (maybe 1 in 10 times) as I try to lock or even sometimes unlock with the remote. I tried putting it on "valet mode" but that has not really helped. The fact is that I live in a very safe neighborhood, and there are much prettier pickens out there than my faded 200k 4Runner. All the alarm does is tick off the neighbors and others near me when it goes off. Any ideas on how to fix this or just permanently disable it while leaving the remote entry in tact?

I remember reading in the manual that if that happens you may need to replace the battery in the remote. I think it's letting you know the battery is low.
