Getting the Wheeling Fever
Is the 22re an interference engine? Also, where can I find a quality timing gear set for this engine?

My '86 4Runner went to the bone-yard November 29, 2004 at 10am after roughly 430,000 miles on the original engine and transmission. :-( Looking for something else to wheel in...

Body Damage is Cool
when i build the 22RE mutant engine(22RE with aftermarket EFI eliminating the AFM) in the future to replace my elderly 20R, i'm going to buy from engnbldr based solely on his reputation, i've never heard a bad thing about him

Thanks for the help everyone... I'll most likely be upgrading to a gear set when I replace the head gasket. (I've got no compression in the #1 cylinder due to a blown head gasket... truck still runs, though!!)

Do you mean a replacement set of gears for use with the chain? Or a gear set like for a Chevy V8? Not sure that the latter would even be possible. All I can picture is this long line of about twenty little gears to go from top to bottom...

Im glad you said something PAToyota...I couldnt come up with any mix of words to explain that a full gear timing set just aint gonna happen easy on these motors without sounding condescending. Thats quite a gap between the crank and cam gear...definately would be an interesting thing to see.
