I don't know if this would be useful or even realistic, but could you put the front calipers from a LWB montero (lets say a 90) on a SWB? (say an 87) what would be the implications? what else would I need to change? would i get more stopping power? or would the swb hydraulic system push them? any advice is much apreciated.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY ahead of you! This swap's been known about for awhile. Do a search for "V6 brakes". Lots of good info. Congratulations for stumbling upon it too.
