I did my routine mtce on my 2000 V6 SC'd Runner this past weekend. I have not really done any service or cleaning since EC4RJ04 and found some disturbing things.
First, water almost found it's way into my throttle-body after my blasting through one of the water crossings (I know it is not wise to do but in my situation at that time I had no choice). When I pulled the air filter it was caked with dirt, silt, and dried-on mud. When I looked to see if the intake needed cleaning, I found that mud and water made it way up into my intake tube, past the MAF and just into the opening of the throttle body. I took the entire intake out, airbox and all, and first cleaned out the throttle body with sensor-safe throttle body cleaner. Then I removed the MAF from the housing and cleaned the entire airbox and intake tube in mild detergent and hot water. Everything was flushed out with hot rinse water and let dry. I cleaned out the MAF (recently installed new 3 months ago) and re-assembled everything. Then I took my rig on a test drive down the local highway 65-70 mph. All seemed fine until I found the need the next morning to accelerate into traffic and upon pressing the pedal to the floor to accelerate my truck starts to choke out around 3700 rpm and will not go past 75mph ... period. It actually feels like it is being choked of all power instead of pulling steady to redline like it normally did. Almost like it is straining to rev up to redline as if something is holding it back.
Is it possible that when I cleaned the intake that I dislodged some crap in the throttle body and it is plugging up some internal orifice in the throttle body??? I plugged in my Scantool and no codes and of course no MIL either. The MAF appears to be registering the temp and airflow correctly as close as I can tell. Until I performed the cleaning, I did not have this acceleration problem. Even though the air filter and box were plugged up with dirt and other crap it still seemed to run fine. I also checked all the hoses and all check in good consition with no cracks or leaks. I plan on pulling the intake off again this weekend and will try to reclean the throttle body again to see if that helps. Is it also possible that loading the throttle body full of cleaner that it may have damaged an O2 sensor ?
Any suggestions ??? Thanks in advance ... Gadget, if your out there ..

What is also possible may be the most obvious. Did you also clean all the hoses attached to the intake / induction system? Did you clean them inside and out? Did they fit tightly and the clamps (where needed) were snug? The clamps, hoses and gaskets were all cleaned and in good shape?
I had a vinyl vacuum line split going to the EVAP system. I had a huge hole of power WOT between 2500 and 3500. Mind you, my rig is N.A., but sounds like a big leak from here.
Just throwing this out, worth checking.

Mike, I did a visual but not physical removal to check for any crud in the actual hoses. To be honest it did not cross my mind, but I can see how it could be pulled into the hoses and possibly even the vacuum ports the hoses are attached to. I will check those out tomorrow after work when I have some day light to see things better.
Thanks Mike for the info.

Did a test a lunch today using my Scantool. I watched the TPS%, IAT, RPM, and MAF readings. I happened to notice that when at idle the Scantool shows fluctuating between 680-700 RPM which is about normal, but yet the tachometer shows only 350RPM ??? Not a good thing. Glancing at the Scantool while going down the road (I know, not safe)I only show the RPM about 1100-1200 RPM going 45MPH roughly. I know the computer is showing the RPM readings correct from the Scantool at the OBD-II port but is there some other system link or sensor on the engine that controls another signal input for the engine management as well as the tachometer? If the engine RPMs are reading all wrong then that would explain the engine dying out as something thinks it has reached redline possibly. Maybe it is a fluke that a sensor has gone bad just when I happened to clean everything out this past weekend. I do not have the FSM for the electrical so I cannot look it up. Any help would be appreciated if someone has the FSM they could look this up in.
Thanks ...
