Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did.

Roll Me Over
I would try to put on atleast 300 miles(or as much as possible) to break the gears/engine in, as well as some sitting in stop and go type traffic to make sure the engine cooling system is working correctly. After that I would change out the fluids.

Another thing you may want to consider is, did you change out the gears yourself, and how many times have you changed gears? If this is your first set, I would wait long enough to make sure the gears were set right, unless you are bringing an extra 3rd(or two). Sometimes if the gears are set close, but not right it takes a couple of 100 miles before they start making noise. A buddy of mine went through 3 sets of gears on his Ranger before he finally got them set right doing it himself.

If it were me, I would wait until I knew for sure that everything was installed and working right, before hitting the Rubicon. The Rubicon isn't a fun trail with a broken rig, even worse if you are having to be towed out due to a bad engine.

More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else.

Thanks for the thoughts...

I've pretty well decided to stay more local so if something goes south on me while wheeling I'm not too far from home.

I had a friend whose done hundreds of R&P's do the work for me, but I agree that I'd like to be a bit careful with them until they are completly seated and running right. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

I've been planning a trip up the Rubicon for several months, and will only have 2 weeks to break in the motor and the gears before the trip. due to work, I don't have unlimited time to do a full and complete break-in (500 miles) before goin wheelin.

I broke my engine in in 3 days, 1 day of running errands and a couple of nights of crusing around for a few hours, but I didn't have much choice since I'm driving to Texas on Friday... I definitely wouldn't take it unless it had a few hundred miles on it, I found a few bugs after driving mine that far, but ya might be able to get at least that much if you go crusin whenever you get the chance (assuming it's not a trail only rig).
