Body Damage is Cool
Ok, this is my predicament. I have a white 90 trooper with 203k miles on it. It has been a great car, it has the 2.8L V6, with a 5spd. I like the truck, i just dont know if a stick is the right truck to start me off in the sport of wheelin. Now, down the road, there is a cherry 91 trooper, red, 180k miles, power nothing, grey tweed fabric interior, V6 with automatic for only 2900. Which is a great price for the car. he has records and he has always taken it to the same Mech. we took our trooper to. Now i
would love to have this trooper, but i am a little sentimental about mine. What do you guys (and gals) think i should do about this? I welcome all thoughts and opinions.

Keep the stick and learn to use the parking break if you are on inclines and such. I love having my stick offroad, but having an automatic is definitely easier I think. I haven't ever had an automatic offroad though. I wouldn't want to trade my 5 speed though. My opinion, but that is what you asked for.

While you might be uncertain about beginning your off-road life with a manual transmission, I assure you that it is the best way to go. Will you get into trouble you might otherwise avoid? Possibly. Will you learn from it? Definitely.

Stick with the known quantity (your truck) and learn how to use the clutch to your advantage.

When in doubt, use the low range on your transfer case.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I am selling my auto 91 V6 Troop once I get back from Iraq for another 91 V6 Troop (5sp LS). I'll let it go for ~$2500 if ya don't mind waiting 20 months . Well, if you were really interested, I could sell it before I deploy maybe. I'm in the Savannah area, too. berisford@gmail.com

Slim, nice rig. Looks like a good deal for $2,500. Clean, and it already has the Superwinch manual hubs.

p.s. - Thank You for serving our country, sir.

Manuals have good points and so do autos, it's pretty much personal choice. One thing to consider about autos though, they come with 4.56 gears and the manuals come with 4.10s. I agree that you can find a better deal too, I got mine for $1600 with very detailed service records and it was all done by an Isuzu dealership mucho dinero spent!!! Either way you go it's still nice to have a rig that makes people eat their words when they see you out wheel them (see Durango rescue story ).

Gen I Troop's have 2 flavors of 3rd member ratio's:

4.56 (most common)

4.77 (rarer and most desireable)

Didn't matter whether it was auto trans or manual, you'd still have one of these.

Don't know which rigs (if any) got 4.10's, but it ain't Gen I's.

Unless maybe the Diesel Troops had a weird #?????

Dang lied to yet again by the service dept. at Braley and Graham Isuzu. That's twice now that they've spewed untruths to me, oh well, I stand corrected. Get what you want it's apparently all the same, gears that is.
