Getting the Wheeling Fever
Before I tear into the wiring for a trailer plug, I thought I'd ask you guys first. Which side do I tap into where the wires are? Do I need to get behind the tail lights? Your help is appreciated! Greg Edit: DOH!! Its a 91 4Runner.(I guess that would help)

What year rig? On my 88 4Runner, I have a trailer light adapter spliced into the driver's side right behind the removable compartment cover where the windshield washer fluid reservoir is. That is where the previous owner put it. Here's a pic

Well, I'm not sure if that will help or not since yours is a 91 <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Adam, thanks for the info!! I checked the back where your wires are, and bummer- not the same. I'll keep looking into this before splicing any wires. Thanks again.

There's no plug to plug and pray.(At least not on the 2nd gens) In the back, I see split looms, but no plug. Pretty sure I have to cut into the wires, but just not sure which ones. Thanks for the reply.

i think the plug and play he is talking about plug into the rear lamps some how. I never have used them but heard of them. Get a test light and trace the wires from your tail lights if you just want to splice them.

Since trailer ligths are mostly 1 lamp per side you need an adapter to make from driving ligths and diferent turn light and brakes to the american system of just the one bulb...
