Getting the Wheeling Fever
Ok so my husband usaully is the one who post for help but he is at work so I will try to describe our problem and hopefully someone can help.. We have a 1987 swb Montero. It's been having some issues with the way it runs. When trying to start it, it sounds like it's not getting enough gas. When it finally gets started it will run but it feels like it is bogged down until it gets around 3rd gear. It's been doing this for a few days then monday we stopped somewhere and it wouldnt start. We ended up putting in a new fuel filter, cleaning the carb, putting some grease lighting in the gas and then putting a full take in. It seemed to work for a day but today while driving to work it just died. After is sat for a little while it started right up. The carb was just rebuilt 3 years ago. Any suggestions?? Fuel pump maybe?

Fuel pump, injectors maybe. Other less likely suspects are the coolant temp sensor (does the 87 have this?), catalytic convertor, or the O2 sensor. All can cause rough/irregular running/acceleration.

I'd check the fuel pressure, and also pull the injectors to clean/test them. Even if this doesn't solve the problem, you can at least check them off your list. And you'll have a better running truck when you do fix the problem. Best of luck! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Body Damage is Cool
Don't know -- could be the bowl vent valve if the hard starting is only with a warm/hot engine. Mine went that way, first just hard to start then almost impossible. Also lacked power and had the absolutely WORST gas mileage you can imagine.

If you do a search on here under bowl vent valve you should find lots of good info, or post back and (when I'm not at work) I'll tell you how to check it.
