Recently completed my 22r engine rebuild and camden supercharger install.

http://lakebox.dnsalias.com/photos/81toy/22rblownrhs.jpg

Engine details:
1981 22r block
bored .40 over
Vatted, decked, cleaned
Turned crank, new bearings
JE custom turbo pistions, 8.5:1 CR
Double row timing chain
Blower cam
Stock head, mild port job.
1996 Camden supercharger (4-12psi boost range)
Weber 38 carb

After install, I turned it over via starter. I was unable to get oil pressure. To fix, I pulled the oil pump, filled it with grease, reinstalled. The grease seals any air leaks. I had pressure in 10 seconds.

I started it last night, let it idle without the SC belt on. Eventually got the timing right and it idles OK. Shut it down, as I haven't installed the radiator and I need to heli coil one of the exaust manifold inserts.

Added a boost gauge and an A/F gauge to the truck.

The last major issue is creating some kind of linkage for the weber. Ideas apprecated... LC Engineering has not fabricated a linkage for the blower currently.

Congrats. Maybe post a few pics of the carb and the throttle armature? You may be able to do something with either the 85-88 22RE throttle cable or the 89-95 22RE throttle cable. The 85-88 cable is longer than the 22R cable, while the 89-95 cable is longer still.

Basically, post some more pics and we can kick it around.

I like the red valve cover and the super charger looks nice. How are you going to adapt the serpentine belt to vbelt? Looks like the throttle linkage needs to be lengthend and you will need to create a bracket like the stock setup. Perhaps you can use those bolts on the back of the supercharger to hold the bracket.

I'll post some more pics soon.. Gotta do some work tonight.

Thanks for the suggestions on the linkage.. I'll look at it. I'll also take some photos of the stock linkage for compare.

I can lengthen the throttle cable myself with a little solder and brass tubing... There isn't a good way to bolt that cable up to the carb without some sort of mojo, however.. I'll work it out, but I'm open to suggestions.

The setup has a serpentine pulley that basically bolts to the end of the stock pulley system. So I end up running both V-belts and serpentine.

More photos later...

Blower in.. Cable problem solved (no photos) yet.
I used a longer cable, one that came with the blower setup for Holly carbs. I don't think it will last much longer as it's starting to fray. I will try replacing the inside cable itself with some bike cable first, then I'll move on to the 85+ cable - thanks for the suggestion!

Problems:
Blow-by... Turns out my copper head gasket ($65) sucked. Torquing the head to spec, it still puked water and created a mess. I finally tore it down, put in a felpro, and it's running much better.

Currently, I've got the blower setup for 4-5 psi, at least that's what I was told in terms of the pulley being on it. It's producing 4-5 psi way up, like at 4900 rpm, so I don't like that. I need to find if that is where the peak boost will be produced. I'd like to see 4-5 psi at 2900 rpm.

I wish someone else had one of these blowers!

Boost is dependent on rpm and load. At a steady cruise at 3000rpm on flat ground, my boost gage sits right at zero. Let off the gas and it goes to vacuum, get one it and it goes instantly to boost. The higher the engine speed and the higher the load, the more boost. Pulling a 8% grade at 11,000 feet at 4000rpm, I'll see 15 psi of boost on a regular basis. On flat ground, 7-8 pounds is the most I'll see. The long and short of it is that there really isn't a way to lower the rpm at which peak boost occurs. All you can do is increase the max boost at high rpm which will increase the available boost at lower speeds. Clear as mud?

15 psi on a blower? That's a lot.. Hope your motor is built for it.

I talked to Adkins Rotary today (they bought Camden) - they said that their blowers were rated to produce X max boost at peak rpm.. So I am seeing what is advertised for my blower, 4-5 psi at 4000-4500 rpm, WOT.

Cruising around, 2250 rpm, I can see 2 psi or so.. Not very much, I'm going to upgrade to an 8psi peak pulley. That should give me 4 psi under normal acceleration conditions.

My gas mileage is CRAPPY - anywhere from 10-14 mpg. I like the motor, it makes neat blower noises, but a 4.3 is a much better swap for a lot of reasons!
