Roll Me Over
After hearing of Stony's success story I think I'm going to go for this - my lifter noise is pretty bad and if this doesnt work I'll look to more tedious means of correcting the problem - i.e. new lash adjusters or whatever it needs beyond what a cleaning could do... For now though I plan to flush 3 times, use new filters each time, and clean the oil pan on the final flush.

My question, perhaps even if you dont like my idea, is: I use Mobil 1 exclusively as did the previous owner. Is it necessary or at all beneficial to use Mobil 1 through each flush or is the cheapest oil I can find gonna be sufficient? At $5/qt the Mobil 1 path is gonna get pricey.

You don't need to use M1 for all 3 flushes. I'd say just the last one. It's throw away oil, and that's a lot to throw away! And since you're putting it in only for a few minutes with a detergent/cleanser each time, it's not making any difference that you're using synthetic...you're cleaning it out and not letting it penetrate.

I vote dino oil the first two, then M1 the last flush and final fill. That last flush will be plenty for the M1 molecules to work their way in. Also, having 98% M1 and 2% dino won't hurt anything. You'll still get the slippery benefits of the M1.

If the truck has a ton of miles on it, be aware it may use a little oil after those 3 flushes. Sometimes a little gunk is a good thing if the seals/rings are worn. But carbon deposits are never good! And you may end up needing lifters (are they hydraulic or no?!) anyway, so be prepared!

Good luck!

Body Damage is Cool
No need to run synthetic if you only use is for short flush. What are you going to use to flush it. The shop that rebuld the head suggest me to use 1/2 quarts of marvel 500 miles before oil change.
I did not want to do that at that time because I heard some horror stories about the gunk clogging oil passage.

Did you try shut it down briefly and then restarting it. It works for me before and would get rid of the noise for a while.

Well, 400 miles after that flush, and NOW it's ticking upon initial startup...but it goes away once it's warm, or I can stop it by taking to 3k and shutting it off and restarting.
