Getting the Wheeling Fever
Ok I think it is listed in my sig, but I have a '95 4runner and it has "ABS" if you would call it that. I was just informed today that in maine you can not lift, or change the tire size on a vehicle that has ABS in maine. Has anybody else run into this problem with a lift and new tires. maybe I sould just buy an '88 chevy and put 8" blocks all around and some 38's cause that would be legal. but a 2" lift with coil replacements and some 32's isn't.

what to do?

You are up a **** river my friend... Can't you register your truck in VT or something? Get a PO box... no shackel lift... no blocks... no "modifiying" an ABS veh...

yeh the abs thing is bogus... I live in maine too and i went though the entire inspection manual looking for that and there was nothing. The only specification is that the tire size can not exceed manufacture specification. But you can get away with 33s pretty easly.

What IS legal in Maine? Seems to me if we want to do any wheeling around here lately, you either have to do it on your own property or trailer it somewhere. A friend of mine up the road had to park his dodge because his tires were too big, he has a body lift, and his suspension was too high. No where near inspectable in Maine.

well fortunately I found this all out before I spent any money on lift and tires. Although my buddy was trying to inspect his 2001 4runner with a SAW coil lift in the front, some OME springs and 265-75-16 instead of the stock 265-70-16. I am kind of wondering about the "hic" type trucks that are just down the road from me. There is one guy with a F*** F250 with what looks like a 6" suspension and a 3" body lift but drives around town with dinky little All Season tires. but keeps his 38's in the bed of the truck.

Was searching around for fellow Mainers and came across this post.

Check out Newjo.org and neow.com for updates on the ABS law, many members of our club have faught hard to get the law changed, and we're almost there.

Lucky me I dont have ABS.
