IFS bump stop question.. #43742 11/26/02 08:41 PM

What would happen if I lowered my UCA bump stop mounts?? Or should I just cut off the mounts all together?

I removed the rubber bump stop a few years ago, but I am getting tired of the popping sound every time the suspension "tops out".

Anyone ever tried this??

Cheers

have you had problems with your ball joints since removing the UCA rubbers? did you remove the lowers too?

The outer birfield can withstand greater than stock angles and regularly does with the longer than stock A-arm kits, but the inner joint is limited in it's "in and out" movement and may pull itself out of the socket when fully extended without the bumpstop or bumpstop relocated. Not that I would go pushing the outer joint too much. It too could break when you least expected it.

The 2 or 3 inches of extra travel is probably not worth the risk of breaking something on the trail. Have you considered going with one of the longer than stock A-arm kits. They are a bit spendy, but well worth it, if an SAS is not your future. You can get a ton more travel than you ever could with the stock A-arms.

i'm gonna cut mine in half
they squish considerably at stock height
that's why i wouldn't cut more off
those low profile ones don't look thick enuf to me
and i prefer rubber

so, you had no probs with no stop at all?
i've had some with no lower bumpstops <img border="0" alt="[Nerd]" title="" src="graemlins/nerd.gif" />
not a good idea... <img border="0" alt="[Rat]" title="" src="graemlins/rodent.gif" />

i also put some divets in the frame clamping 3/4 springs to it with 'u bolts' <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="images/icons/frown.gif" />

It's been used time and time again by many w/o any problems.
But it's your truck and you can do as you choose.

I have removed both upper and lower bump stops.. no problems yet!! I also forgot to mention that I have a procomp 4" lift, Will the after market arms work with this lift??

I've been putting off a SAS.. I like the way my truck rides now + I pull a boat about 150 miles( oneway) every other weekend in the summer.

With increasing droop you are unlikely to see problems because when the suspension is at full droop, there is little force on the wheel if at all. Often the suspension is at full droop because the wheel isn't even on the ground. What angle your a-arms end up when all the weight is on a wheel will make a much bigger difference in CV failure.
